Royals advance to semi-finals

Published 2008-04-07

The Temiscaming Royals clinched a birth in the semi finals with a decisive win over the visiting King City Wild by the score of 6-2 in front of a very animated home crowd announced at 701.

The Royals opened the scoring in the first period by Brandon Blanche, on a speed rush up the wing and around the defenseman and tucked the puck over the goalie's shoulder. With less than two minutes to play in the first, while on a power play, Guillaume Brisebois deflected a Cory Marquardt shot from just inside the blueline to make it 2-0.
The home team seemed to take the second period off as they watched the Wild come back and tie the game with two unanswered goals of their own. The first by Colin Shearing and the second, off a power play by Matt Marchese.
But the third period belonged to the Royals as the home team was determined to end the series tonight. Alex Brazeau got things going at the seven minute mark with his seventh of the playoffs. Then it was Cory Marquardt's turn while on a power play, on a very tight angle shot, putting the puck in the top of the net over a bewildered Kyle Parker of the Wild. Guillaume Brisebois scored his second of the game on a scramble in front of the Wild net. And then with less than four minutes to play, Stephane Gunner finished off the scoring for the Royals.
Guillaume Piche stopped 23 shots for his eight win of the playoffs while the Wild's Kyle Parker took the loss facing 45 shots.

Referee Joe Conway handed out 18 minor penalties with the Royals taking ten.

The 3 stars were Alex Brazeau, Guillaume Brisebois and Brandon Blanche.

The Royals will now play the Innisfil Lakers in the semis, while the Bradford Rattlers will host the Elliot Lake Bobcats. The next series is slated to begin in Temiscaming on Sunday March 16, game time has not been determined as of time of this release.
