EXTRACTION OF SURFACE MINERALS
The Town of Temiscaming has adopted By-law #719 in order to comply with the Act respecting municipal powers, by establishing a local fund dedicated to the repair and maintenance of certain public roads used by quarry and sand pit operators.
This by-law applies to all surface mineral substances (sand, gravel, stone, clay, etc.) transported from an extraction site located within the Town's territory. A fee is payable per metric ton or per cubic meter by the relevant operators based on the quantities extracted.
The amounts collected are used exclusively for:
-
The repair and maintenance of municipal roads used by trucks transporting these materials;
-
Work aimed at reducing the impact of transporting these substances.
Operators are required to submit periodic reports to the Town regarding the quantities extracted and are subject to inspections. Fines are provided for false declarations or failure to comply with the by-law.
The purpose of this by-law is to protect municipal infrastructure while enabling the responsible management of natural resource exploitation within our territory.
