NOTICE | FOR RESIDENTS GOING OUT OF TOWN
With the cold temperatures ahead, it's crucial to take precautions, especially if you're leaving your home. Here are a few tips to avoid problems with frozen pipes:
1. Prepare to leave: If you're leaving for an extended period, turn off the main water shut-off valve to avoid any risk of freezing.
2. Leave a trickle of water running: For residents who stay, leave a trickle of water running overnight to prevent pipes from freezing.
3. Maintain a minimum temperature: Make sure the temperature inside your home doesn't drop below a safe level, especially if you're leaving.
4. Insulate exposed pipes: If you know of any exposed pipes, insulate them with insulating sleeves available from local hardware stores.
5. Close outside valves: Be sure to close all outside water valves to prevent freezing.
6. Emergency plan: Inform a trusted neighbor of your departure dates so that he or she can monitor your home and take emergency action if necessary.
